MotoQuest India: Himalaya Adventure
Seen pictures of the “Road of Death” in Bolivia? Wanna ride the Indian version?
Warning: "This trip is the most dangerous that we offer. The roads are terrible. The scenery is unimaginable. Motorcycle Nirvana? Possible. Will I be back? Definitely!"
-Phil Freeman Owner, MotoQuest Tours

We almost touch Tibet on this phenomenal journey along the gorgeous Spiti River Valley. The tour itinerary takes us up and over several spectacular passes, culminating with Lachalung Pass at 5,065 meters! This area is virtually Tibet with it’s prayer flags and Bhoti Culture. Go back in time in a country that is timeless. Be ready for the ride of your life! India is PURE motorcycle adventure!
Warning: India is NOT for everyone:
You are not ready for this trip UNLESS YOU LOVE TO: ride dirt, cross streams on motorcycles, look at mountain scenery, camp, challenge your riding abilities, experience timeless cultures, ride curves, eat Indian food, and meet curious, friendly people.

This is not a LEISURE TRIP. Rather, it is a Survivalist’s trip. Do you laugh at danger? Then this may be the ride you have been waiting for!

We highly recommend that you spend at least one more day in Manali before flying home. We will be happy to arrange any extra hotel accommodations for you! Manali is a wonderful town with much to do. We are sure you would like to spend an extra day exploring this area!
Visa:
Visas are obligatory for citizens of the United States and Canada. Please check for you own country.
Always bring at least two passport photos with you when you travel internationally.

Driving:
Left Side Traffic.
Use Horn when passing!!
Mind the horn behind you..someone is about the pass!
Lane splitting OK.
Watch for cows!
Treat every corner as if a dump truck is coming around!
Trucks will signal you to pass them with a wave.
100 Himalayan Kilometers = 100 Miles of Rocky Road
Little or no warning for road construction.
No guard rails with over 1,000 ft drops!

Inner Line Permit:
Be prepared to apply for an Inner Line Permit in Rocong Peo. We will organize this procedure. This can take up to several hours, but it is necessary to have this permit in order to travel along the Spiti River Valley. Bring a couple of Passport Photos with you for this purpose, just in case.

Warning: Altitude!
Much of the itinerary is at high altitude. Some nights will be spent above 10,000 feet. If you feel this will affect your trip to India, see a doctor and take a physical. You want to be in the best physical shape possible when on this trip.
Most of the traffic in India seems random and chaotic. There is a rhythm to it, but be prepared for the unexpected. India is not place you go to take a Sunday cruise. It more about staying aware and being able to ride you bike competently in adverse conditions.
Scenery: Do not let Scenery get in the way of your concentration. It is the most deadly part of the trip! Stop before you try to take in the grandness of the Himalayas!
Bring your own sleeping bag. We will have organized camping for two of the nights! All camping equipment such as tents and sleeping pads will be provided…just bring a 3 season bag for yourself. Food, toilet and water will be available at these comfortable camp sites.
